How to change the letter case of data

This article describes how to display data in a different letter case when it is merged by AccurioPro into a document.

ALL CAPS or SMALL CAPS

If you would like to display the data in All Caps or Small Caps, simply apply that InDesign formatting option to the variable text link before it is merged.

TITLE CASE, LOWERCASE, SENTENCE CASE

If you would like to display the data in another Case Format (for example, Title Case or Lowercase or Sentence Case), add a Link Rule and set the Action of its Default Condition Statement to Change Case, choosing the case that you would prefer and then assign this Link Rule to any Variable Text Link, as described in the steps below:

  1. Choose Setup > Rules from the AccurioPro menu to open the Rules dialog window.
  2. Click New, select Link for the Rule Type and enter a Name for the new Rule, then click OK.

  3. Select the Default Condition Statement in the new rule and click Actions.

  4. Select Change Case to: for the Action and select a case.

  5. Click OK to save the change to the Default Condition Statement of this new rule.
  6. Click OK to save this change to the Rules in the Document's DDF.
This closes the Rules dialog window.
  7. Select the variable text link where you wish to assign the new Rule.
  8. Select the Rule on the AccurioPro panel and click Replace.
  9. The Variable Text Link will display a doubled green underscore indicating both a Link and a Rule are assigned to this text.
If you do not see any green underscores, change the InDesign Screen Mode to Normal.

OTHER CASES

If you would like to display the data in any other type of letter case, then consider changing the case of the text in the data file before you merge that data into a document. Microsoft Excel, for example, provides a feature to do this. For more information regarding how to change the case of text in MS Excel, see this Microsoft Excel documentation.
